Brief geographical characteristics 

Balchik municipality covers an area of 523 square km in the southeast of Dobrich Province. In geographical terms it is situated in the coastal part of the Danube Plain and Dobrudzha Plateau, similarly to Kavarna municipality, which it borders to the northeast. It has also borders with the municipalities of General Toshevo (north), Aksakovo (southwest), and Dobrich - rural (west).

The municipal center is located 440 km from Sofia and 40 km from Varna.

In the east Balchik municipality borders the Black Sea, which determines the main orientation of the local economy to tourism. On the territory of the municipality Albena Resort, Balchishka Tuzla Resort Area and village of Kranevo are situated. The length of the coast is approximately 18,5 km and is decisive for the town of Balchik to gain the position of a port center with cargo quay and yacht harbor north of the town of Varna.
