Mineral resources 

The wealth of mineral resources in Balchik municipality is determined by the manganese deposit near Obrochishte and Tsarkva, which is deemed the largest in Europe[1], and Dobrudzha coal deposit.

The manganese deposit has a deposit depth of 280 to 440 m and the content of manganese in the ore is averagely 28 %. It has been established that the balance reserves are approximately 111 million tons.

The coal deposit has proven reserves of 1.2-2 billion tons of high-quality black coal with a calorific value of 4.6-7 thousand calories per kilogram[2].

Among underground mineral resources we should mention the limestones in the area of the town of Balchik – Momchil quarry for cut stone and gravel and Lyahovo quarry for blown rock mass, which can be assessed as having good decorative properties.
