Climate

In terms of climate Balchik municipality belongs to an area with moderate continental climate, which is influenced by both moderate climate and the Black Sea. The average annual temperature is 11,8 °С. Summer is sunny, not too hot and softened by the sea breeze. The average temperature in July is 22 °С; the sea temperature reaches to 24°С. Winter is relatively cold for the latitude, at which the municipality is located, with average January temperature of 0,8 °С.

Rainfall is relatively low in volume. In the summer and autumn fall about 26 % of the annual rainfall, in the spring – about 23 %. The snow cover stays for not more than 15 to 17 days[1]. However, the proximity of the sea determines the higher humidity during the year.

The region is dominated by northern and northwestern winds, as the average annual wind speed is about 6,7 m/sec. Therefore, the region is characterized as windy above normal values for Bulgaria.
