Water resource

As with the previous two municipalities, the main valuable wealth of Balchik municipality is seawater. As for the surface running water, the lower streams of the rivers Batova and Kranevska pass through the municipality. Their river maximum is in the spring and the minimum is in the middle of summer and in autumn. There are also many gullies and dry valleys, which are filled with water only during heavy rain and melting snow.

Another specific and very valuable hydrosource is the mud lake with healing sea mud. It is known as Balchishka Tuzla and has reserves of healing mud of sedimentary firth mud, amounting to 38 000 tons. A mud-cure establishment is built near the deposit, which work on the basis of lagoon-firth mud.

In the region of Balchik municipality there are also separate deposits of underground mineral water. They are concentrated in the coastal area, as most significant is the deposit in Albena Resort. Though with a lower flow rate, the mineral springs in the town of Balchik, village of Kranevo and Balchishka Tuzla are important. The role of mineral water both as a valuable natural resource and a recreational resource is repeated emphasized in the developed strategic documents for the development of the municipality[1].
